I’m looking for a persistent notetaking application, something like gedit but persistent. I don’t like Zim. any suggestions?

Oh, now I know what you mean by persistent. I thought you just wanted an editor that can save files.
With Kate, you can make it work just like Zim if you choose at startup of Kate to load the last session. This loads all the files you were working on the last time and will put the cursor exactly where you were last time.
Try it. I am sure you’re going to love it.
