The Federation of Young European Greens is announcing an open call for participants for the training “Common Digital ®evolution” that will take place from 11 - 17 September 2018 in Budapest, Hungary.
Fighting for Our Common Planet is the third activity of FYEG’s Annual Work Plan No Commons No Future! supported by the European Youth Foundation of Council of Europe and the Green European Foundation.
Commons refer to shared resources and social practices that are maintained by communities in a sustainable manner. Commons offer a clear
ethical perspective and helps us understand what happens when people collectively manage and take stewardship over resources. Good management
of commons offers a sustainable and accessible alternative to the current centralised and dominant role of the state and market.
The training will be focused on digital commons. It aims to increase young people’s digital participation by developing an understanding of digital commons - in particular the Internet and its management, as well
as digital advocacy skills. Mismanagement of commons have very concrete
consequences on the lives of young people. It is crucial that young people are involved in designing the ways digital commons are managed. Sustainable commons are a prerequisite for participation overall and the
ways they are managed can serve as examples for many different types of
participatory processes.
In order to increase capacities of young people to advocate for commons, we will:
- Learn what commons are, and in particular what digital commons are;
- Understand the relation between digital commons and youth participation by learning from concrete examples of young people’s struggles to influence decision making related to digital rights;
- Raise awareness about the importance of free and accessible internet
as a prerequisite for access to information, organising, and equal participation of all young people; - Learn new tools and strategies of digital advocacy in particular adapted to the struggle for commons.
The program will be based on the principles of non-formal education and intercultural learning. We strive for an active, inclusive
and direct communication and sharing of knowledge. The sessions will be
balanced between theoretical inputs, workshops, discussions, training and other interactive methods of non-formal learning.
We are looking for 25 young people between 16-35, residing in one of the Council of Europe member states ,
Belarus or Kosovo*, who are interested in developing an in-depth understanding of environmental commons and of how they correlate with young people’s access to rights.
Practicalities:
The main language of this activity will be English. But not being comfortable in interacting in English should not prevent anyone from applying. Please let us know in your application if you don’t feel comfortable enough with using English and which language(s) you speak. At this point, we cannot guarantee any interpretation during the event but the preparation team will search for solutions if there is a need.
The full cost of working materials, visa and lodging (accommodation in multi-bed rooms, vegetarian food, and refreshments) during the training will be covered by the organisers. In exchange, we ask for a participation fee of 30 EUR for participants coming from non-EU countries and 50 EUR for participants coming from EU countries, Norway, Switzerland, and Iceland.
Applicants for whom paying this fee is an obstacle for participation,
should still apply and mention this in their application. FYEG will try
to find a solution together with the applicant after the selection is finalised.
FYEG will reimburse 70% of travel cost within reasonable limits and within Europe for participants coming from EU countries, Norway, Switzerland, and Iceland. We will reimburse 90% of travel cost for participants coming from non-EU Eastern European countries. All with the
condition to combine the most economic and environmentally friendly way
(lowest price + travel time + CO2 emissions).

OPTIONAL - For applicants coming from FYEG Member Organisations only**:** Member Organisations’ support letters expressing endorsement of participation for their members can be can be sent to project.manager@fyeg.org with the ,NAME SURNAME SC support letter’’ in the subject until the 15th July at Midnight .
Upon taking into consideration general selection criteria, when examining individual applications, preparatory teams will give a priority to the applicant with the support letter attached over other applicants coming from the same organisation, unless there are well-founded reasons not to.
