14th Young Faces Conference: Cyber Security Winter School

This year’s programme will develop participants’ understanding of cybersecurity challenges and cybersecurity governance, from technological and security aspects to analysis of international and
political dimensions. The programme will address national and global cybersecurity policy issues; it will also address the role of policy-makers and international actors and review relevant national, regional and global best practices and policy frameworks.

Throughout
the programme participants will develop their monitoring and analysis skills and use them to develop recommendations for improving cybersecurity governance in the region.

Specific topics and skill areas that will be covered include:

  • Examining the main threats of cyberspace and their technical, political, economic and organisational background;
  • Identifying and explaining key challenges of national policies and international relations in the field of cybersecurity;
  • Mapping legal and political frameworks for the protection of citizens online and monitoring ongoing international processes;
  • Contributing to the development of national and regional policies and strategies related to cybersecurity.
    The Winter School is co-organised by DCAF and DiploFoundation and co-funded by DCAF and the Swiss Ministry of Defence

To be considered for the network, applicants must:

  1. Be no more than 35 years old on 31 December 2014;
  2. Be public officials, corporate sector representatives, graduate students or members of civil society or the media from the Western Balkans or Moldova;
  3. Hold a graduate degree (or be enrolled in a graduate degree programme) or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline;
  4. Have a good command of English, spoken and written;
  5. Submit the following,by e-mail to f.klopfer@dcaf.ch, no later than 26 September 2014:
  • a detailed curriculum vitae (CV);
  • a completed application form.
  • All documents must be submitted in English and should be formatted using Microsoft Word.
  1. Be willing to commit to actively participate in all Network activities:
  • Be available to participate in a five-day workshop (to be organised from 1 to 5 December 2014 in Petnica, Serbia);
  • Be available to take part in an interactive online classroom environment and an online preparatory session in form of a webinar (for this, participants need access to the Internet) and;
  • Be prepared to engage in research aimed at developing a 1’500-2’000 word policy paper (assignment).
